To get the hang of doing something!

Have you ever heard this idiom?!

"To get the hang of doing something" means to get the way to do something or to understand the technique of doing something.

For example:

Three weeks ago I took up a painting course. Before that I had never tried something similar. The showing of the materials and techniques were completely new for me. Now I am more adapted to that and I got the hang of painting

Did you get the meaning and example?!
