Oh! I have heard and used this many many times!
"Hold on for a minute/a minute/for a second/one second!"
People use that a lot! This variations mean basically the same which is like wait for a moment.
For example:
John: Hi, dude! What's up?!
James: Hey! How have you been?!
*John's phone ringing*
John: Oh, I gotta take it. Sorry. Hold on for a minute.
This verb can also be used when you are on the bus and it gotta move, so you have to hold on something not to fall down.
